Solar System Installation

☀️ SOLAR PV SYSTEM INSTALLATION – STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

✅ 1. Client Consultation & Requirement Analysis

  • Assess energy needs (kWh per month)
  • Identify installation purpose:
    • Grid-tied, Off-grid, or Hybrid
  • Consider load type: Residential, Commercial, Agricultural
  • Discuss budget and space availability

✅ 2. Site Survey & Feasibility Study

  • Measure rooftop/ground area (or available land)
  • Check orientation (South-facing ideal in northern hemisphere)
  • Assess:
    • Shading (trees, buildings, etc.)
    • Roof inclination & strength
    • Local solar irradiance (kWh/m²/day)
    • Accessibility for maintenance

Deliverable: Site Survey Report + Shadow Analysis

✅ 3. System Sizing & Design

  • Use this formula for rough sizing: Required System Size (kW) = Daily Energy Need (kWh) ÷ Average Sun Hours/day
  • Select system type:
    • On-grid: Connected to utility grid
    • Off-grid: With battery storage, no grid
    • Hybrid: Grid + Battery
  • Finalize components:
    • PV panels (Mono/Poly)
    • Inverter (string, micro, or hybrid)
    • Mounting structure
    • Batteries (for off-grid/hybrid)
    • AC/DC disconnects, protection devices

Deliverable: Electrical Single Line Diagram (SLD) + Layout Drawing

✅ 4. Load Analysis & Electrical Design

  • List all connected loads with power rating
  • Peak load and surge analysis
  • Design:
    • AC & DC cabling routes
    • Earthing/grounding system
    • Lightning arrestors
    • String configurations (Series/Parallel)
  • Select inverter capacity based on design

✅ 5. Component Procurement

  • Source:
    • Solar panels (Tier-1 preferred)
    • Inverters (as per MPPT range and efficiency)
    • Batteries (Lithium-ion or Lead-Acid)
    • Mounting hardware (aluminum/galvanized)
    • MC4 connectors, junction boxes
  • Check certifications (MNRE, IEC, BIS)

✅ 6. Mounting Structure Installation

  • Fix structure on roof/ground using chemical anchors or ballast
  • Maintain optimal tilt angle (equal to local latitude)
  • Ensure structure can withstand wind load (as per IS 875)

✅ 7. Solar Panel Installation

  • Fix panels to mounting structure
  • Connect in series/parallel as per design
  • Use MC4 connectors
  • Clamp cables with UV-resistant cable ties

✅ 8. Inverter & Electrical Setup

  • Mount the inverter indoors or under a shaded area
  • Connect DC input from PV array
  • Connect AC output to distribution panel
  • Wire battery bank (if hybrid/off-grid)
  • Install:
    • AC/DC isolators
    • SPD (Surge Protection Devices)
    • MCBs/MCCBs
    • Earthing (min. 2 for electrical + 1 for lightning)

✅ 9. Net Metering / Utility Approvals

  • For on-grid systems:
    • Submit application to DISCOM (electricity board)
    • Net metering agreement
    • Utility inspection
    • Meter replacement (bi-directional meter)

✅ 10. System Testing & Commissioning

  • Verify:
    • Voltage and current of each string
    • Inverter operation (MPPT tracking)
    • Grid sync (for on-grid)
    • Battery charging/discharging (if applicable)
  • Perform insulation resistance test
  • Test earthing and polarity

Deliverable: Commissioning Report + Test Certificates

✅ 11. Training & Handover

  • Train client on:
    • Inverter operation
    • Monitoring system (mobile app or web portal)
    • Maintenance schedules
  • Provide:
    • User manual
    • Warranty documents
    • As-built drawings

✅ 12. Maintenance & Monitoring

  • Periodic cleaning of solar panels (every 2–4 weeks)
  • Remote monitoring of generation
  • Annual electrical inspection
  • Battery maintenance (if applicable)
  • Replace fuses/SPDs if needed
